Consultation on Proposed Amendments to the Pharmaceutical Regulation Administering and Prescribing Hormonal Contraceptives Drugs Reminder

The College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) is currently seeking your feedback on the proposed amendments to the Pharmaceutical Regulation on administering and prescribing hormonal contraceptives drugs. As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability, CPhM Council has initiated a 30-day consultation period, concluding on May 8, 2026.

To participate, we encourage you to explore the detailed documents and rationale for the proposed changes on the dedicated Consultation webpage.

We encourage you to review the proposed changes and provide your feedback and comments to feedback@cphm.ca before the May 8, 2026, deadline.

Continuing Competency Matters

As discussed in the January and February Continuing Competency Matters, a second focus group met in March to discuss potential revisions to the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba’s (CPhM) Continuing Competency Program (CCP). A small group of pharmacists representing diverse practice settings and responsibilities discussed why CPhM must update their CCP and how a CCP applicable to the full scope of pharmacy professionals’ practices could be developed. CPhM thanks the participants for their time and insights.

The Quality Assurance Committee is currently reviewing the feedback and the questions raised by the focus group and are considering further opportunities to gather feedback from additional pharmacy professionals on the proposed revisions to the CCP. Preliminary plans include a webinar likely to be held the week of May 19-22, 2026.

Keep an eye on future Continuing Competency Matters for information on this webinar, how you can provide your feedback to CPhM about the revised CCP, and the focus groups results.

Mandatory Pharmacy Manager Training Program (MPMTP) – Failure to Complete by Time Ordered Fee Policy in Effect

January 30, 2025, marked the one-year anniversary date of the official launch of the MPMTP. This self-directed program, created at the direction of Council, focuses on the legislative and operational responsibilities of pharmacy managers, including supervision, incident management, and pharmacy security and contributes to consistent and quality patient care across Manitoba.

At the time of implementation, pharmacy managers had one year to complete the MPMTP by February 1, 2026. A pharmacist who was newly designated as the pharmacy manager after February 1, 2025, is required to complete the training within one year from their CPhM approval and designation as a pharmacy manager.  To date, 467 pharmacy managers have completed the course.

To address pharmacy managers who are delinquent in completing the MPMTP within the required timeframe, Council has approved policy AP 10:  Mandatory Pharmacy Manager Training Program – Consequences of Failure to Complete, which is now in effect.  The policy directs that pharmacy managers who fail to complete the MPMTP within one year of their CPhM approval as designated manager, are subject to a fee of $100/business day, up to a maximum of $10,000 in fees, commencing 7 business days after the completion deadline.

While all are encouraged to review this policy, those pharmacy managers that must complete the MPMTP are strongly encouraged to review the policy to ensure they have completed the program within their required timeframe.

Should you have any questions regarding your timeline for completion or the policy itself, please email info@cphm.ca.
