The College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) is pleased to announce the launch of the Pharmacy Manager Training Program, developed in collaboration with Manitoba subject matter experts and the University of Saskatchewan’s Continuing Pharmacy Education (USask CPE). Through this partnership, we are using USask CPE’s online learning platform to deliver the program virtually, ensuring pharmacy managers across Manitoba can conveniently access the training. Please note this program is a mandatory requirement for all pharmacy managers in Manitoba.
Who Must Complete This Training?
- Current Pharmacy Managers: Must complete the training by February 1, 2026.
- New Pharmacy Managers: Must complete the training within one year from their designation and CPhM approval as a pharmacy manager.
- Other Pharmacy Professionals: While the program is mandatory for pharmacy managers, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are encouraged to participate to gain valuable insights into leadership and regulatory compliance.

- Accreditation: 25 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), accredited by the Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP).

- Provincial and federal legislation and regulations
- Pharmacy professional standards of practice and guidelines

- Create or modify and implement policies and procedures that support and guide staff in the operation of the pharmacy to promote quality care and inspire public confidence.
- Design and implement processes to effectively communicate with diverse pharmacy team members, regulators, and the public (including websites and advertising).
- Design and implement processes to effectively communicate with other health care professionals, patients, family members, and other caregivers to ensure patient safety and continuous quality care.
- Design and implement record-keeping procedures and documentation in the pharmacy that meet legislative, regulatory, and professional requirements.
- Appraise and adjust pharmacy processes to ensure legal, accurate, appropriate, and complete medication dispensing.
- Establish a healthy, supportive pharmacy working environment that promotes professionalism, quality patient care, and professional development of staff member.
- Prevent and manage patient safety incidents in order to promote patient safety.

Documentation & Compliance
- Upon completion, you will be directed to an accreditation survey, which will generate your Statement of Completion.
- There is no need to email your Statement of Completion to CPhM. Instead:
- Log into your Registrant Portal.
- Add this activity to your My Learning Plan form.
- Upload your Statement of Completion to ensure proper documentation and compliance.
- Completing this training will also count toward your accredited learning requirement for that professional development year.

Will there be accommodations or flexibility in completing the program?
The program is designed to be completed within a one-year period, which provides ample time for pharmacy managers to balance their regular responsibilities and take the training.
The one-year timeline offers flexibility in how the training is completed. You do not have to complete the entire program in one sitting. You can complete sections as you have time, save your work, and pick up where you left off until you finish the entire program.

Pharmacy managers who do not complete the program by the required deadline will receive a notice of non-compliance, and the matter will be referred to the CPhM Complaints Committee.
If I complete this program in Manitoba, will it be recognized in a different province?
The Pharmacy Manager Training Program is specific to the regulatory requirements in Manitoba. While it is an accredited program, recognition in other provinces may vary. If you plan to practice in another jurisdiction, please contact the respective regulatory body to confirm.
I have completed a Pharmacy Manager Training Program in a different jurisdiction. Do I need to complete the CPhM Pharmacy Manager Training Program?
Yes. All pharmacy managers in Manitoba, whether new, well-seasoned, or experienced with a Pharmacy Manager Training Program required in another jurisdiction, are required to complete the CPhM Pharmacy Manager Training Program. This ensures that you are familiar with the specific regulatory requirements and standards that apply in Manitoba.
How is this program different from programs existing in other provinces?
The CPhM Program is a Manitoba-specific program. Council engaged with a subject-matter expert to create content that addresses the unique knowledge and skills required to meet the regulatory requirements in Manitoba.

CPhM Council created this program in response to the emerging trends and potential risks that were identified by the Complaints Committee as repeated themes in complaint matters.
Council chose a proactive, supportive approach that would address the trending topic areas and mitigate risks by providing pharmacy managers with a comprehensive education program.
The Pharmacy Manager Training Program is designed to expose ALL pharmacy managers in Manitoba to the knowledge and skill areas they require to meet regulatory requirements for safe and ethical practice.
