Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector Search, and Adult and Child Abuse Registry Checks

All pharmacy student, intern, pharmacy technician, and pharmacist applicants must submit current Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector Search, and Adult and Child Abuse Registry Checks.

In accordance with The Pharmaceutical Act and Regulations, any application to the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) to practice as a pharmacy student or intern, pharmacy technician, or pharmacist must include the following: 

  • Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search; 
  • Adult Abuse Registry Check; and 
  • Child Abuse Registry Check 

The name you list on your Checks must exactly match your name on the other documents you’ve submitted to CPhM. All variations of your name used on your other documents, including previous names or aliases (i.e., maiden name), must be listed on the checks.  

Furthermore, all pharmacy professionals that are licensed or listed in Manitoba must also meet the obligation to submit satisfactory record and registry checks every five years.

What is a Criminal Record Check?

A Criminal Record Check (sometimes called a police record check) indicates if you have been charged with or convicted of a crime. Your Criminal Record Check must be performed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or another Canadian police service, which confirms the check was completed using Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and based on the National Repository of Criminal Records of Canada.

What is a Vulnerable Sector Search?

A Vulnerable Sector Search is an additional police information search to see if a person has a record suspension (pardon) for sexual offences.

What are the Adult and Child Abuse Registry Checks?

The Adult Abuse Registry lists people who have abused or neglected a vulnerable adult such as a person with a disability while the Child Abuse Registry lists people who have abused or neglected children.

Where do I apply?

Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Search 

  • Visit the Criminal Record Checks page for your province to apply. 
  • When you reach the “Report Selection/Requirement” section, please select “EMPLOYMENT.” 
  • Be sure to read all instructions carefully. 

Adult and Child Abuse Registry Checks 

  • Go to the Adult and Child Abuse Registry page to apply online. If the province you currently reside in has a similar process, you cannot use that. 

As outlined in Section 4(h) of The Pharmaceutical Regulations: 

  • Registration of pharmacists
    • 4(h)  In addition to the requirements of subsection 11(1) of the Act, an applicant for registration as a pharmacist must provide a criminal record check, a child abuse registry check under The Child and Family Services Act, and an adult abuse registry check under The Adult Abuse Registry Act, that is satisfactory to the board; 

Both Acts mentioned above are specific to Manitoba, therefore you must obtain your checks from this province only. 

How do I submit documents to CPhM?

NEW APPLICANTS

Please mail the original documents to CPhM along with your other application materials or drop them off in our secure mailbox. 

EXISTING REGISTRANTS 

  • The submission process for record and registry checks has changed. You must submit your documents electronically. 
  • Retain your original documents for the entire 5-year cycle in case of future audits. 

Submission Guidelines: 

  • Do not send documents one at a time. 
  • We only accept documents in PDF format; no pictures are allowed.

Important reminder:
CPhM will periodically send reminder emails to licensed/listed pharmacy professionals whose record and registry checks are nearing expiration. Please note that CPhM will not accept advance submissions if your checks are not yet due.
