Consultation on Proposed Amendments to the Pharmaceutical Regulation for Pneumococcal Vaccines
Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care (MHSLTC) has proposed amendments to the Pharmaceutical Regulation to enable injection certified pharmacists to administer the new publicly funded pneumococcal vaccines and to update the definition of “hospital.”
Proposed Amendments:
- Amendment to Schedule 2: This amendment will allow pharmacists to administer any of the two publicly funded pneumococcal vaccines, as well as any future publicly funded pneumococcal vaccines.
- Update to Hospital Definition: The definition of “hospital” in the Pharmaceutical Regulation will be updated to reference the Health Services Insurance Act instead of “The Hospitals Act”.
You can access the proposed amendments here.
Background Information:
Due to recent updates in the Pneumococcal Immunization Program, the Pneumococcal 23-Valent Polysaccharide (Pneu-P-23) vaccine is no longer available for pharmacists to order or administer. The proposed amendments will enable pharmacists to continue providing essential immunizations to patients.
Feedback Submission:
The CPhM Council has approved a 15-day public consultation period for these draft regulation amendments. We encourage you to review the proposed changes and provide your feedback. Comments can be submitted via email with the subject line ‘ Consultation Feedback’ to feedback@cphm.ca by August 15, 2024.
Requests for Letters of Standing Available Through Registrant Portal
CPhM is pleased to announce that pharmacy professionals can now request a Letter of Standing* through their profile. You may access the request form through your Registrant Portal under My Forms via the home page.
Please contact registration@cphm.ca if you encounter any issues. Thank you.
*A Letter of Standing is verification of your registration with CPhM. A registrant may request this document when another jurisdiction requires proof of registration from the regulatory body where you are (or were previously) registered.

Reminder to Enter Your PD Learning Activities Before Renewal
As we approach the renewal period from October 1 to November 15, the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) reminds all pharmacy professionals to ensure that your Professional Development (PD) Log is current.
Keep Your Learning Activities Updated
Please make sure to enter your learning activities for the current PD reporting cycle. Here are some helpful tips:
- Record Your Activities: List each of your learning activities accurately, answer the reflection questions, and upload your statements of completion or participation. It is strongly recommended that you upload your statements so that you do not need to provide them if chosen for the Annual PD Review.
- Use the “SUBMIT” Button: After entering 2-3 activities, click the “SUBMIT” button to save your progress. This helps prevent data loss if the system times out while you’re away.
- Complete the Mandatory Learning Activity: Every Manitoba pharmacy professional must complete the annual professional development mandatory module or webinar to renew their license. This year’s mandatory webinar, “Part 2: Pharmacy Practice Integration of Indigenous Health Standards”, must be viewed by October 31, 2024. However, we strongly recommend completing it before the renewal period and uploading your certificate to your profile.
- New Pharmacy Professionals: If you’re new to the field, you must view this year’s webinar and all previous mandatory PD learning activities.
- Keep Your Records: Maintain copies of your PD statements of completion and supporting documents for three years and be prepared to provide them if selected for the Annual PD Review.
Avoid leaving your PD obligations until the end of the PD reporting cycle.
Pharmacy professionals will not be able to complete their renewal until they have met and entered the minimum PD requirements in the online PD Log. Once you complete your renewal online, the system will close the current practice year, and you will not be able to add new learning activities or upload your completion documents after that. More details to be added at a later date.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact profdevelopment@cphm.ca. Thank you for your attention.

The office will resume regular hours of operation, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
