New Reporting Requirements on Ownership and Management Changes Now in Effect

As of January 1, 2025, the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) has implemented a new policy regarding the reporting of any changes in ownership or pharmacy manager. Failure to report these changes within the specified timeframe, as outlined in the Act and Regulation, will result in a ‘Failure to File’ fee. This policy ensures pharmacies and pharmacists remain compliant with provincial regulations and helps keep CPhM records up to date.

To maintain compliance with the CPhM policy, please ensure you understand the reporting process, gather the necessary documentation (e.g., the file share summary from the Manitoba Companies Office), and submit reports promptly.

For more information, including a detailed FAQ, visit the CPhM website under https://cphm.ca/about-the-college/professionalregulation/policies/ or contact registration@cphm.ca for further information.

CPhM Citizen Roster – Call for Applicants

The College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) Citizens’ Roster gives community members the chance to volunteer on CPhM committees and contribute to pharmacy regulation in Manitoba.

The Citizens’ Roster is intended to add diverse perspectives from the public to CPhM committees.  To be eligible as a community representative, individuals must be Manitoba residents; those who are registered with CPhM or who are pharmacy owners are not eligible to serve on the Citizens’ Roster. Relevant experience includes community involvement, volunteer work, or participation in activities such as school committees, sports, or non-profits.

Spread the word to those you know who may be interested. To apply or learn more, visit https://cphm.ca/citizens-roster/. Public representation plays a key role in ensuring that CPhM serves the best interests of the community.

Enhancing Patient Care: The Role of Pharmacists in Personalized Counselling

Pharmacists are more than medication experts; they are trusted sources of information, patient advocates, and educators.

As outlined in the Patient Counselling Practice Direction, pharmacists must:

  • Personalize Information: tailor counselling to each patient’s unique circumstances, including their health status and prior understanding of their condition and medication.
  • Proactively Support Care: notify patients when their medication refills are running low and encourage them to schedule follow-up appointments with their prescribers for an assessment and evaluation of their condition and therapeutic choices, if needed.

Patient counseling is an expected standard in the delivery of pharmacy care and must occur for every prescription dispensed. Even if a patient or their agent refuses counseling, pharmacists have a professional obligation to convey critical information if, in their judgment, it is necessary for the patient’s safety.

For repeat and refill prescriptions, patient counseling remains mandatory; however, the content of the discussion can be adapted based on the pharmacist’s professional judgment.

For more details, please review the Patient Counselling Practice Direction.
