Mandatory Pharmacy Manager Training Program Open for Registration
This morning, CPhM sent an email to all pharmacy professionals introducing the Pharmacy Manager Training Program, a new mandatory education requirement for all pharmacy managers in Manitoba. Developed in collaboration with Manitoba subject matter experts and the University of Saskatchewan’s Continuing Pharmacy Education (USask CPE), this program provides essential training to support pharmacy managers in meeting their regulatory and professional responsibilities.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will gain knowledge and skills to:
- Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Implement policies that promote quality care and public confidence.
- Communicate effectively with pharmacy teams, regulators, and patients.
- Maintain accurate pharmacy records and improve dispensing processes.
- Foster a professional work environment and manage patient safety risks.
While this training is mandatory for all pharmacy managers, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are encouraged to participate to enhance their leadership and regulatory knowledge.
The program is delivered through a self-directed online platform and is accredited for 25 CEUs by the Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP).
For full details on registration, completion deadlines, and program benefits, visit the Pharmacy Manager Training Program webpage.

Dispensing of Provincially-funded Tuberculosis Medications
To help prevent delays in care, the WRHA Pharmacy Program is reminding pharmacy professionals that treatment for suspected and active tuberculosis (TB) is publicly funded in Manitoba and provided at no cost to patients.
Prescription Requirements
To ensure appropriate coverage through provincial Pharmacare eligibility, all TB medication prescriptions (e.g., isoniazid, rifampin, ethambutol, pyrazinamide) for active or latent TB infections must:
- Follow the Tuberculosis Protocol by Manitoba Health.
- Be written on a provincial prescription template.
- Be sent to a designated pharmacy listed on the template (refer to: active or latent template, or open-ended form).
Important Note:
Many of the same TB medications may also be used for treating other infections, i.e., those caused by Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM), however they are not publicly funded for indications other than active or latent TB treatment. Pharmacists are encouraged to confirm indication with the prescriber directly if unsure and to conduct a DPIN review when filling a prescription for any TB medications.
Pharmacy Responsibilities:
Pharmacies may continue filling TB medications prescriptions for non-TB indications, however, pharmacists are encouraged to:
- Review the DPIN profile to verify the indication and check the dispensing history particularly for new patients and prescription transfers.
- Ensure thorough documentation and patient history review to support accurate dispensing.
For more information on TB management in Manitoba, please refer to Manitoba Health TB resources.
Reminders Around Immunization Reporting
Pharmacists play a key role when it comes to immunizations. To accurately capture those efforts into Manitoba’s Immunization Registry and onto a person’s immunization record, Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long Term Care (MHSLTC) would like to remind pharmacists that when reporting doses, please, be mindful of the following:
- Influenza and COVID-19 vaccines are to be entered manually into the Public Health Information Management System (PHIMS).
- All other vaccines that are administered by pharmacists are to be entered into DPIN with the PS code.
- Vaccines that are only dispensed by pharmacists are to be entered into the Drug Programs Information Network (DPIN) without the PS code.
- If a PS code is entered into DPIN for dispensed vaccines, a duplicate administration record appears on a client’s immunization record when the purchased vaccine is administered by another provider.
An updated Infosheet for Pharmacists has been added to Manitoba’s Immunization Program Manual. All pharmacists who administer immunizations are encouraged to review that resource.
If there are any questions with regard to Manitoba’s immunization program, please email vaccines@gov.mb.ca.

Pharmacy professionals are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest.
