CPhM Announces an End to Professional and Student Awards and Recognition Programs

As an organization committed to fairness and impartiality, CPhM Council has decided to discontinue CPhM’s awards and recognition programs. While this program has been a valuable way to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of pharmacy professionals in Manitoba, it presents a conflict of interest with CPhM’s mandate to protect the public interest.

Maintaining public trust and confidence is of the utmost importance to CPhM. To effectively regulate the profession of pharmacy, we must avoid partiality and conflict of interest, meaning that CPhM relations with registrants must remain neutral, consistent, and unbiased. To ensure impartiality, Council has directed that the awards and recognition programs cease, the Awards and Nominating Committee be dissolved, and efforts be made to divest the programs to other interested organizations, as appropriate.

We understand that many of you worked hard to earn these recognitions and that you have made significant contributions to the profession of pharmacy. We want to assure you that your past achievements will not be affected. We recognize that this decision may be disappointing for many of you; however, we believe that this change is needed to ensure that CPhM is fulfilling its mandate to act in the best interests of the public with sound ethics and integrity.

Council extends its appreciation to members of the Awards and Nominating Committee for their meticulous work over the years bringing recommendations to Council for awards and recognition of deserving individuals. Thank you to the many registrants who have gone to the effort of honouring their colleagues and advancing the pharmacy profession.

Call for Expressions of Interest for Committee Service – Pharmacy Technicians Encouraged to Apply

Pharmacy professionals interested in making a meaningful contribution to the pharmacy profession in Manitoba are invited to apply for the statutory and standing committees of the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) to assist with fulfilling its mandate of regulating the practice of pharmacy in the public interest.

Pharmacy technicians with diverse backgrounds and experience working in different practice settings are strongly encouraged to apply. By joining the committees, you will have the opportunity to work alongside other pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, members of the public, and Council members to help ensure the safe and quality care of pharmacy practice in Manitoba.

All those interested in becoming committee members with CPhM are encouraged to view the information on the CPhM website and submit a Committee Expression of Interest form. CPhM considers several factors when reviewing the applications, including experience, expertise, practice setting, demographic representation, and unique skills and attributes.

The appointment of committee members is made in the best interests of the committee to ensure it is adequately constituted, able to function effectively and fulfill its duties and responsibilities. The selection process endeavours to match volunteers with their expressed interests, and appointments are contingent on vacancies at the time.
