New Policy Enhances Public Protection Through Timely Reporting

Effective January 1, 2025, the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) will implement a new policy that strengthens the reporting requirements for changes in pharmacy ownership and management. All changes must be reported within seven days to ensure the accuracy of pharmacy records; failure to report changes within the required time period as outlined in the Act and Regulation will result in a ‘Failure to file’ fee.

This updated policy supports CPhM’s commitment to public protection by helping ensure that only licensed and approved individuals are responsible for pharmacy operations. It also allows for timely regulatory oversight, which is critical for safe and effective pharmacy practice.

Pharmacies are reminded to provide all required documentation, including a file share summary, when submitting reports of ownership or manager changes. Overdue submissions may incur a late fee.

Announcing CPhM Citizens Roster

The College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) is pleased to announce the launch of the Citizens’ Roster. This is a new governance initiative that provides opportunity for community representatives to volunteer on CPhM committees and contribute to pharmacy regulation in Manitoba.

The Citizens’ Roster is intended to add diverse perspectives from the public to CPhM committees.  An individual must be a Manitoba resident who is not a CPhM registrant to be eligible to serve as a community representative.

CPhM invites members of the community to apply to the Citizen’s Roster. Any experience, whether through other community involvement, volunteer work or activities (e.g., serving on a committee at a child’s school, involvement in music, sports, theatre, or other non-profit organizations) is relevant experience and will assist a community representative to serve on CPhM committees. Pharmacy professionals may know people in the community who would like to apply to the Citizen’s Roster.

We encourage you to share this announcement with individuals who may be interested in this opportunity. For more information and to apply, please visit https://cphm.ca/citizens-roster/.

The public relies on CPhM Council and its committees to work in the public interest, making it essential to have adequate public representation at all levels of governance.

Improving Access to Flu and COVID-19 Vaccines for Manitoba Children Aged 2 to 5

The following message is shared on behalf of Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care regarding challenges faced by Manitoba families with children under the age of five in accessing immunizations.

Recognizing that this is a busy time, pharmacy professionals and pharmacy teams are reminded to explore all opportunities to improve access to influenza and COVID-19 immunizations for all ages, including children 2 and older.

Injection-authorized pharmacists are able to administer flu and COVID-19 vaccines to children as young as 2 years old. (However, the minimum age for all other vaccines remains at 7 years and older).

To ensure the safe and effective administration of flu and COVID-19 vaccines to children two years of age and older, pharmacists must be competent and are encouraged to review:
