Hospital Practice Direction Project: Seeking perspective of all pharmacy professionals
The College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) is seeking input from pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns and students in all sectors of pharmacy practice on the Hospital Practice Direction (HPD) Project. You can share your perspective relating to quality and safety in hospital pharmacy practice by completing this short (estimate 10 minutes) electronic questionnaire. The questionnaire will remain open until Friday, February 13, 2026. Your voices will translate into guidance that is constructive, responsive, and geared to hospital pharmacy professionals. Perspectives of all professionals registered with the CPhM (hospital as well as community and other sectors) are needed to create a complete picture of patient risk in hospital practice.
Upon completion of the questionnaire, hospital pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are invited to express interest in joining a focus group. A focus group is an informal gathering where a facilitator guides discussion around open-ended questions and encourages interaction between participants. Through focus group conversation, new understanding emerges around the findings from the e-questionnaire. Results from the questionnaire will be analysed along with other sources of evidence to inform the HPD. A summary of results will be published in Spring 2026.
More information about the project is available on the HPD project website.
Pharmacy Manager Training Program Reminder
In January 2025, the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) introduced the mandatory Pharmacy Manager Training Program. This self-directed program focuses on the legislative and operational responsibilities of pharmacy managers, including supervision, incident management, and pharmacy security. The CCCEP-accredited nine module program must be completed:
- By February 1, 2026, for those designated as pharmacy manager on or before February 1, 2025.
- Within one year of becoming a pharmacy manager after that date.
Pharmacy managers who do not complete this program by the required deadline will receive a notice of non-compliance, and the matter may be referred to the CPhM Complaints Committee for further review and/or another measure directed by Council.
By completing the training, you help ensure the standards in pharmacy management, and contribute to consistent, quality patient care across Manitoba.

New Streamlined Pathway for Registration and Licensure of Pharmacist Applicants from Eligible Jurisdictions
The College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) has introduced a new streamlined pathway to support the registration and licensure of international pharmacists from eligible jurisdictions who:
- currently hold an active pharmacist license, with no conditions, restrictions, or outstanding complaints, discipline, or remedial process in an eligible jurisdiction, and
- have practiced for at least 600 hours in pharmacy practice, or graduated from their pharmacy education program, in an eligible jurisdiction, in the three years preceding their application.
Eligible jurisdictions include Australia, Great Britain, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, and United States of America (USA). These jurisdictions have similar pharmacy education requirements, entry-to-practice competencies, scope of practice, and regulatory oversight as those in Manitoba.
Through this streamlined pathway, applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will follow a process like that used for pharmacists applying from other Canadian jurisdictions. All remaining legislative and regulatory requirements will continue to apply.
Manitoba is the first province outside of Atlantic Canada to introduce this type of streamlined pathway for internationally trained pharmacists. By reducing administrative burden and other barriers, this initiative supports the faster entry of qualified pharmacists at a time when Manitoba faces a health human resource shortage.

National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) Consultations
NAPRA has launched two related public consultations and is seeking feedback from pharmacy professionals. Both consultations are open until 10:59 p.m. (CST) on March 15, 2026.
Model Documents for PRA Use – Non-sterile and Sterile Compounding Standards
As part of the work that began in 2024, NAPRA is updating its model documents on standards of practice for pharmacy compounding to better align with the outcomes-based approach taken for other NAPRA model documents and to update content based on current evidence-informed references and reflect current and anticipated future pharmacy practice. These model documents serve as a foundation for compounding standards for pharmacy regulatory authorities (PRA) across Canada, including Manitoba.
Components for PRA Approach to Compounding Competence
Building on the 2024 updated entry-to-practice (ETP) competencies document and the PRA agreed-upon approach to compounding competence shared in December 2025, NAPRA is consulting on the implementation of various components that are required to support the PRAs in implementing the agreed-upon approach to compounding competence. These components include guidance for education accreditors, a national list of qualifications and criteria for assessors, and the timelines required for the various steps in the process. Feedback will help PRAs finalize their expectations for various components.
These two consultations have similarities and are cross-linked. Pharmacy professionals are encouraged to review both.
