Open Position on CPhM Council

Have you ever wondered how governance decisions are made? Or wanted to play a role in shaping the future of pharmacy regulation requirements in Manitoba? Now is your opportunity.

The College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) Appointments Committee is seeking one Full Registered Pharmacist to fill a vacancy on Council. The successful candidate will serve out the remainder of a three-year term, expiring May 2028.

As CPhM’s governing body, Council is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organization and ensuring that CPhM continues to meet its mandate to uphold the public interest in regulating the practice of pharmacy professionals. Council members work collaboratively to make decisions that support safe, ethical pharmacy practice across Manitoba.

Pharmacy professionals who are interested in applying to fill the vacancy yet concerned they have no governance experience are encouraged to apply.

CPhM’s competency-based appointments process recognizes that strong governance relies on a variety of experiences and skills. Council service requires pharmacists who are committed to serving the public interest, willing to contribute thoughtfully to discussions, and eager to learn. Orientation, education, and training programs are provided to every Council member.  Council members are not expected to possess every competency individually; rather, the goal is to build a balanced and diverse group of Council members that, collectively, encompasses all the competencies being sought and reflects the profession and the public it serves.

All interested pharmacists are encouraged to apply. Applications are open until 4:00 p.m. on September 4, 2026.

For the eligibility requirements, application information, and more information about Council, please visit https://cphm.ca/council-appointments/.

Continuing Competency Matters Pilot Project Update – Knowledge Application Assessment

Thank you to those pharmacists who have already indicated interest in the pilot project on the Knowledge Application Assessment.

Registrant feedback has emphasized that the pilot project should not occur during the influenza and COVID-19 vaccination period of mid-October to mid-December. To avoid these dates,  the pilot project would run either mid-September to mid-October, or be shifted to January to February of 2027. Timing of this pilot project is being finalized, and updates will be provided as soon as decisions have been made.

We are continuing to seek interested pharmacists, so please click on the following link if you wish to participate or are interested in receiving more information: https://forms.office.com/r/3LMpyVAT8d.

Prescribing for Hormonal Contraception – Update

Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care has notified the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) that the amendments to the Pharmaceutical Regulation to enable pharmacist prescribing of specific dosage forms of hormonal contraception, as well as pharmacist administration of injectable contraceptives prescribed by pharmacists will come into effect on August 4, 2026.

Pharmacists who have completed the required training and received authorization from CPhM will be permitted to prescribe hormonal contraception effective Aug. 4, 2026.

Pharmacist administration of injectable contraceptives prescribed by a pharmacist also becomes effective on this date and requires CPhM injection administration authorization as well.

CPhM thanks all who provided their feedback in consultations on pharmacists prescribing and administering for hormonal contraception. CPhM Council considered all comments and feedback and shared recommendations with the government.

For more information on the requirements for pharmacists to prescribe for hormonal contraception, please see https://cphm.ca/practice-education/prescribing-hormonal-contraceptives/.

Renewal Preparation – Learning Plan

In preparation to renew registration and licence to practise or listing in the fall, the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) would like to remind all pharmacy professionals to ensure the information on your Professional Development (PD) Log registrant profile is up to date.

The current CEU reporting cycle is from November 1, 2025 to October 31, 2026 (2025/2026 in your Learning Plan). The system will not allow you to enter learning activities outside of this CEU reporting period.

Ahead of renewal season, here are some reminders and tips to help you prepare:

  • Record Your Activities: List each of your learning activities accurately, answer the reflection questions, and upload your statements of completion or participation. The information you enter for each activity must match your statement of participation. It is strongly recommended that you upload all your statements, particularly for accredited activities. This prevents additional work in case you are selected in next year’s Learning Plan Audit.
  • Use the “SUBMIT” Button:  To prevent data loss if the system times out, it is strongly recommended to click the “SUBMIT” button after entering 2-3 activities to save your progress. If you experience any technical issues, please report them to registration@cphm.ca and include screenshots if possible.
  • New Pharmacy Professionals: All new pharmacy professionals in Manitoba must view  all previous mandatory PD learning activities. Newly licensed pharmacists who graduated from University of Manitoba this year are only required to complete the mandatory modules.
  • Keep Your Records: Maintain copies of your PD statements of completion and supporting documents for three years and be prepared to provide them if selected for the Annual Learning Plan Audit.
  • Reporting Period: The 2025-2026 CEU reporting period ends October 31, 2026
  • Mandatory PD Activity: The Mandatory PD, Effective Communication in Pharmacy Practice, spans two Practice Years. Please note that you cannot claim partial CEUs across both Practice Years, and you must claim this activity in the CEU reporting year you completed it.
  • Review: Review and update your profile information. The Registrant Portal Guide will serve as your reference for what information you can update.

Avoid leaving your PD obligations until the end of the PD reporting cycle.

Pharmacy professionals will not be able to complete their renewal until they have met and entered the minimum PD requirements in the online PD Log.  Once you complete your renewal, the system will close the current practice year, and you will not be able to add new learning activities or upload more completion documents.

Thank you for your kind attention. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact profdevelopment@cphm.ca.

CPhM Open Consultations

Consultation on Proposed Revisions to Practice Direction: Sale of NAPRA Schedule 3 Drugs (non-prescription, pharmacy only sales) (closes August 5, 2026)

Pseudoephedrine and ephedrine are no longer scheduled by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA). Current Health Canada restrictions on point-of-sale of pseudoephedrine and ephedrine combination products (including natural health products and non-prescription drug products) mimic NAPRA Schedule 3 restrictions. However, Health Canada’s restrictions are technologically neutral, meaning these products can be sold online.

This has presented a gap because the CPhM Practice Direction on the Sale of NAPRA Schedule 3 Drugs prohibits online sales of pharmacy self-selection products but only for NAPRA Schedule 3 drugs. The proposed revisions clarify that this Practice Direction applies to self-selection pseudoephedrine and ephedrine products, even if these are not listed in NAPRA Schedule 3.

To read more about these revisions and to provide feedback in the consultation survey, please visit https://cphm.ca/consultation-on-proposed-revisions-to-practice-direction-sale-of-napra-schedule-3-drugs-non-prescription-pharmacy-only-sales/.

Consultation on a New Inter-Provincial/Territorial Pharmacy Care Practice Direction (closes August 12, 2026)

The College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) is seeking feedback from pharmacy professionals, system partners, and the public on a proposed new Inter-Provincial/Territorial Pharmacy Care Practice Direction.

This Practice Direction will set requirements for:

  • pharmacists in Manitoba providing care to patients in another Canadian province or territory, and
  • pharmacists in another Canadian province or territory providing care to patients in Manitoba.

We invite you to read the proposed Inter-Provincial/Territorial Pharmacy Care Practice Direction and provide your feedback. More information, including the link to the survey, can be found by visiting  https://cphm.ca/consultation-on-a-new-inter-provincial-territorial-pharmacy-care-practice-direction/.

Vacancies on the National Drug Scheduling Advisory Committee

The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) is currently recruiting to fill two vacancies on the National Drug Scheduling Advisory Committee (NDSAC) and is inviting applications for the following two positions:

For more information, including about the requirements candidates must possess for appointment to the NDSAC, position details, and the application process, visit  https://www.napra.ca/invitation-for-applications-for-napras-national-drug-scheduling-advisory-committee-7/. The deadline for applicants is Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
