HSC Virtual Medicine Ward (“Hospital at Home”)

This message is being shared on behalf of Health Sciences Centre (HSC) and the WRHA pharmacy program.

HSC’s Virtual Ward (VW) Program, launched in Fall 2025, enables adult patients in Winnipeg to continue their hospital care at home. Patients are supported by a team of physicians, nurses, paramedics, and pharmacists, while still being considered hospitalized and remaining under the care of a hospital physician.

Care is delivered through a home monitoring kit which allows for regular video calls and monitoring of vital signs. The program supports patients with mild to moderate conditions who are clinically stable enough to recover at home with monitoring, and may include those with respiratory illnesses requiring ongoing, temporary oxygen therapy, heart failure requiring diuretic therapies, and patients ready for discharge who will require close monitoring of certain labs.

Patients on the VW program obtain their home medications through their regular community pharmacy while HSC’s adult inpatient pharmacy supplies and arranges deliveries for medications related to the patient’s hospitalization.

For more information about the VW Program, please visit:
