CPR and First Aid Course
You can record a maximum of 12 CEUs in a three consecutive-year period from accredited programs in first aid and/or CPR. Training must be claimed in the professional development cycle when it was completed and cannot be carried forward. For a list of approved CPR and First Aid courses, please see the Government of Manitoba’s Workplace Safety and Health Approved Training Providers.
To receive accreditation for live CPR/first aid training, please complete the CPR and First Aid Courses Statement of Participation. Attach a copy of the CPR/first-aid certificate you receive from the accredited provider to the Statement of Participation for your records.
Please note the following:
- Licensed pharmacists must keep a copy of their CPR certificate (issued by the CPR/First Aid provider) in case they are chosen for the annual Professional Development review.
- The statement of participation can only be used for live CPR/First Aid Programs from an accredited provider.
- Pharmacists may only claim CEU for the actual number of hours attended excluding breaks.

Preceptorship
Pharmacists who act as preceptors for pharmacy students, residents, interns, and technicians not only gain professional satisfaction, but can also use their participation as an accredited learning activity.
Learn moreMandatory Professional Development (PD) Programs
All Manitoba pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are required to complete an annual mandatory professional development (PD) module on a new topic each year.
Completing the mandatory modules is a condition of licence or listing renewal. You must complete the annual mandatory module and keep proof of completion (such as a screen shot or download of the statement of participation/completion) for a minimum of three years, and it must be available for regulatory review at any time over that period. You can claim the modules as accredited learning in the PD year you complete them, and they must be entered in your online PD Log. You can find the number of CEU you can claim on your statement of completion/participation. There is no accreditation number. When you renew your licence or listing, you will make a declaration that you have completed the yearly module(s).
Please note that you do not need to repeat a module once you have viewed it and kept proof of completion.
All newly licensed/listed pharmacy professionals must complete the module for the current year in addition to the previous mandatory PD modules found below:
Before starting these modules, please note the following:
- Google Chrome is the most stable browser for viewing these modules. A desktop computer or
laptop are the recommended devices for these modules. Tablets are not recommended. - You may exit the module at any time and resume it later; however, you must use the same
device and browser to return to where you left off in the module.
Note: For access to Mandatory Modules before 2023, log into your registrant portal, click “My groups,” followed by “Active Registrants,” “Professional Development,” and then click on the document found in that folder.

Pharmacists are more than medication experts; they are trusted sources of information, patient advocates, and educators.
Important Note on Counselling and Ensuring Patient Safety:
The Manitoba Pharmaceutical Regulation and associated Practice Directions require all pharmacists to provide patient counselling and ensure patient safety when a drug is dispensed.
Section 56(1) of the Regulation states that each time a drug is dispensed pursuant to a prescription, a member must provide the patient with sufficient information to enable the patient to safely and effectively manage his or her drug therapy. Further, as outlined in the Patient Counselling Practice Direction, pharmacists must tailor counselling to each patient’s unique circumstances, including their health status and prior understanding of their condition and medication.
Patient counseling is an expected standard in the delivery of pharmacy care, and must occur for every prescription dispensed, whether new or a refill.
Section 83 of the Regulation speaks to ensuring patient safety and states that a member must review each prescription and the patient’s record and take appropriate action if necessary with respect to appropriateness of drug therapy, drug interactions, allergies, adverse drug reactions and intolerances, therapeutic duplication, correct dosage, route, frequency and duration of administration and dosage form, contraindicated drugs, any other error in the prescription or potential drug therapy problem, a drug prescribed by a practitioner outside his or her authorized scope of practice; or a drug that has not been prescribed consistent with standards of care and patient safety. For more information, please see the Ensuring Patient Safety Practice Direction.
