Public Posting of Notice of Hearing and Attending a Hearing
Consistent with principles of demonstrating fair and transparent regulation of the pharmacy profession and upholding the public interest, the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) will begin posting scheduled discipline hearings on the website at least 30 days in advance of a hearing. This notification process will go live on the CPhM website in the coming weeks.
Authority for CPhM to publicly post a notice of hearing is established in The Pharmaceutical Act (the Act), Section 46(4), which authorizes the Registrar to issue a public notice of hearing in any manner considered appropriate, while not including the name of the investigated person. Additionally, Section 50(1) of the Act permits, with some exceptions, that a discipline hearing may be open to the public.
Historically, CPhM has not posted notice of hearings. However, CPhM recognizes a public notification process is important to fulfill its regulatory obligations and public protection mandate. The following are key to this process change:
- The public notification process is consistent with regulatory trends observed among other professional regulators in Manitoba and other jurisdictions
- Demonstrates CPhM’s commitment to regulating the pharmacy profession in a transparent manner, in the public interest by holding registrants accountable in professional conduct matters
- Builds public confidence in CPhM to uphold the public interest, act on professional conduct matters, and administer disciplinary actions when needed
Discipline decisions will continue to be published on the CPhM website, as well as in quarterly newsletters.
Full details on Public Posting of Notice Hearings and Attending a Hearing will be available on the CPhM website within the next weeks.
Final Call for Council Applications
The Appointments Committee of the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) is seeking applications from pharmacists interested in serving on Council. Strong governance relies on a variety of experiences, skills, practice backgrounds, and perspectives.
All interested pharmacists are encouraged to apply, even if they are concerned they have no prior governance experience. CPhM provides orientation, training, and guidance documents to all Council members to support them to succeed within the CPhM governance framework.
This is a volunteer role and a unique opportunity to contribute to pharmacy regulation in Manitoba. Council service requires pharmacists who are committed to serving the public interest, willing to contribute thoughtfully to discussions, and eager to learn.
The deadline to apply is 4:00 p.m. on September 4, 2026. Interested registrants must:
- Review the application information,
- Complete the online application form, and
- Submit their resume.
For more information about the CPhM governance framework, please see https://cphm.ca/about-the-college/professionalregulation/.
Pharmacists interested in serving on Council are encouraged to apply. If you require assistance with the application process or would like more information about Council service, please contact info@cphm.ca.
Continuing Competency Matters
Pilot Project Knowledge Application Assessment (KAA): Additional details about the KAA Pilot Project that will run in spring 2027 are available below:
- Pharmacists who complete the KAA pilot project, including post assessment surveys and discussion, will be eligible to claim 15 accredited Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for the 2026-2027 CEU reporting cycle.
- CEU eligibility for successful completion of a KAA requirement in future years may differ. Specifically, if CPhM implements a KAA requirement as part of the revised Continuing Competency Program (CCP), and continuing professional development requirements remain, pharmacists who successfully complete the KAA (e.g. pass the assessment), would also be eligible to claim accredited CEUs. The number of eligible CEUs for future professional development reporting cycles is still to be determined, based on time commitment data that will be collected during the pilot project.
- If CPhM implements a KAA requirement as part of the revised CCP, an option would be given to any pilot-pharmacist who passed the KAA during the pilot to submit to CPhM to have their ‘pass’ count as successful completion of the KAA for the initial cycle. No prejudice would be considered for pharmacists who did not apply for this option, meaning CPhM would not, in any manner, presume that pharmacists not applying had been unsuccessful on the pilot KAA.
Registrant Feedback: A summary of the feedback received via the Focus Groups and post-webinar surveys will be available on the Registrant Portal over the next week. This supplements the information currently available on the Registrant Portal including the Visionary CCP Framework, webinar Q & A, and explanations of updates to the initially-proposed revised CCP based on the Quality Assurance Committee principles, evidence and registrant feedback.
Have you Started Preparing for Renewal Season?
In preparation for the upcoming renewal period this fall (October 1 to November 15), the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) would like to remind all pharmacy professionals and pharmacy managers to ensure that the information on the registrant and pharmacy profiles are accurate and up to date.
For Pharmacy Professionals: Update Your Employment Record
Pharmacy professionals are responsible for maintaining an accurate employment record and must ensure all current employers are listed in their registrant profile. Employment information can be updated at any time throughout the year and should be kept current as employment changes occur.
By updating your profile now, you will save time once the renewal period opens. As the practice hours field is only available within the renewal form, ensuring your employment record is added before renewal will simplify the process and help you complete your renewal more efficiently.
Furthermore, pharmacy professionals may also be selected for a practice hours audit in the first quarter of the next practice year. Maintaining accurate employment records throughout the year can help support the information reported during renewal and any subsequent audit activities.
For Pharmacy Managers: Modifying Pharmacy Staffing
Pharmacy managers are encouraged to perform a monthly review of the pharmacy profile. Managers have the ability to modify the pharmacy staff listing but only limited to removing staff member(s) who are no longer employed at the pharmacy.
To ensure accuracy, pharmacy managers will be prompted to provide the following information when ending an employment record:
- Expiry Date: The staff member’s last day of employment.
- Reason for Removal: Options include staff retirement, resignation, expired contract, or no HR record of employment.
Kindly take note that this feature does not allow managers to add staff members. New pharmacy staff (except for pharmacy assistants and other administrative roles) must update their own employment information so that they appear on the pharmacy profile.
Pharmacy professionals are responsible for maintaining their own employment records and must ensure they only list pharmacies where they are currently employed. If a registrant repeatedly adds a pharmacy where they do not work and is repeatedly removed from the pharmacy profile, managers may seek assistance from CPhM for further guidance.
Any questions or concerns regarding your public profile, including factual inaccuracies must be directed to registration@cphm.ca.
Your attention to this matter will help maintain accurate and up-to-date records. Thank you for your cooperation.
